Substation Project Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Project Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Denver office located in Lakewood, Colorado. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

  • Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution.

  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables.

  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.

Required Education/Experience

  • Ability to function as a Substation Project Engineer in the Denver location of our Substation Business Unit.

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.

  • Experience in 15kV through 138kV substation design (Protection & Control or Physical/Civil/Structural).

  • Experience filling the role of project engineer for several substation projects occurring concurrently.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE).

  • Experience in 230 kV to 500 kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.

Base Salary Range: $80K - $110K

The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job related knowledge, skills, experience and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
