Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers' Small Utilities (SUS) Department is currently seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer to work in the Ellensburg, WA area (candidates within commuting distance are preferred). The entry level candidate will take part in establishing a new POWER Engineers office to help support the growing demand from our clients located in the Northwest region of the country. The qualified candidate will perform substation design, as well as a variety of other tasks as assigned by our electrical utility clients. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The Small Utility Services (SUS) Department offers an opportunity to work with a unique portfolio of clients. The focus of this group is smaller-scale utilities such as Electrical Cooperatives, Municipal Utilities, Rural Electric Associations, Public Utility Districts, Industrial Clients, and others. The ideal candidate possesses a service mindset in line with our clients. By focusing on serving our clients so they can serve their members, SUS projects are often very hands-on with the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on our local communities.

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to:

  • Foundation Plans and Details

  • Structural Steel Details

  • Station Physical Layouts

  • Sections/Elevations

  • Cable and Conduit Plans and Details

  • Ground Grid Plans and Details

  • Lightning Protection Plans

  • Bills of Materials

  • This role may include occasional travel and field work including, but not limited to:

  • Pre-Design Site Walkdowns

  • Construction Oversight

  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.

  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.

  • Attend internal and external trainings, conferences, seminars, etc.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (BS Civil Engineering) or BSCET (BS Civil Engineering Technology) degree, from an ABET-accredited university preferably with a structural/construction focus.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of civil engineering to build on.

  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • At least 3 months of relevant civil engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis.

  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations or familiarity with substation design.

  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam OR ability to pass within 6 months.

  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for completing tasks.

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $60k -$75k per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
